When you sponsor a child you are providing for their nutrition, health, and daily wellness. This enables them to focus on discipleship and education thereby breaking the vicious cycle of poverty. Because of your commitment and compassion, we have the opportunity to accompany these children on their journey through life and see what God does in them and through them in their local communities.

Annual Rent for NHCV

Our healthiest greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,

So much is surfacing across the globe. Many are operating out love, but sadly, many from fear. If only everyone knew the mercy and kindness of Jesus Christ and his promises. He alone is our comfort and confidence. Our earthly wants pale in comparison to the joy of knowing and loving our Jesus. Admittedly, this is not an easy message to convey to adults or children, but it is a necessary reminder as we see in Proverbs 30.

7Two things I asked of You, Do not refuse me before I die: 8Keep deception and lies far from me, Give me neither poverty nor riches; Feed me with the food that is my portion, 9That I not be full and deny You and say, “Who is the Lord?” Or that I not be in want and steal, And profane the name of my God.

— Proverbs 30:7-9

How wise is our infinite God who knows exactly what we do and do not need.

11Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. 12I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. 13I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

— Philippians 4:11-13

Things in Liberia are always difficult, but good. Having endured the ravages of Ebola, this recent virus is far less scary.

We do not have the quality of health care that is available in the USA, but we manage. We do not have the strength of the economy as in the USA, but we manage. What we have, in our poverty, is something greater: no other option. We are drawn closer to Christ, and realize our need for him through the challenges that he alone permits in our lives. The resulting JOY is worth the price, yet I know we would not seek it if we had options. That is the human condition.

Our rent is due. It is annual. This year it is $4,500. Here is our caution:

3You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.

— James 4:3

Can you see that we are careful to measure our ask to be sure it is absolutely necessary?

We work hard to provide, not for our pleasures, but for our children.

We are concerned for their welfare as you are for yours. We must educate, feed, and protect these who are vulnerable among us. We care for 24 children. I wish it were 2400! Right now, we need shelter which requires rent.

If, and only if, the Lord persuades you that our ask is proper and you are able, will you please help us, even just a little?

Back to School Spring 2020

It’s back to school spring 2020 for the children of NHCV. This year we have 24 children in need of support for tuition.

Greetings and Gratitude from Myer and Marie!

It is incredible how the children are growing in every respect. Of course, they grow taller, eat more, and play harder, but they are so beautifully growing in the Lord!

Sometimes I think they have an advantage in Liberia when I observe the destructive effects of wealth and entertainment in the American culture. It is so hard for the children in America to be distanced from the technology that suffocates their activity. Cell phones, Netflix, video games are truly very appealing to the children in America.

I am not at all surprised. I am sure that if this was available in Liberia, the same would happen to the children there. It is very attractive to them and hard to resist.

I thank God that we are free from the temptation because we do not have access.

Instead, we sing to the Lord, read, study, memorize, and recite His Word. Oh, what a blessing it is to their young developing minds! In addition, they go to school and have vigorous curriculums that include the old fashioned reading, writing, and arithmetic.

Now is the time we pray for funding.

Tuition for our children is due and we would be so grateful for your help. We have 24 children in classes and the total per semester is close to $6000. It’s only $250 per child, but 24 children adds up quickly.

This on top of what we regularly provide for them in basic material needs like food, shelter, healthcare, transportation, and clothing. We rarely have surplus, but the Lord has been faithful to provide the essentials for these past 7 years. It is truly an honor to see how His hand has covered us.

Please consider New Hope Children’s Village in your giving.

We will be so grateful.

Also, if you know anyone that would be inclined to help us, would you be willing to make an introduction? It too would be greatly appreciated.

Always Thankful, forever serving,
Myer and Marie Torbor

Tuition & Celebrations

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

You are the evidence of his kindness to New Hope Children’s Village. We are so excited about what the Lord is doing at NHCV!

Please read the testimony below about our three recent graduates.

Our survival is like a child not yet born, attached to his mother for nourishment. We could not see these amazing results were it not for your willingness to partner with us financially. Our ongoing work requires three major campaigns each year, one for annual rent payment, and two for tuition. This is in addition to the daily challenges of feeding, clothing, and healthcare.

22 NHCV children need your help with next semester’s tuition.
Any and all help makes a difference.

Right now we are asking for $4,500 to cover the cost of one semester schooling for 22 children. That is about $205 per child. Right now some of you are wishing your own children were only $205 for school!

Can you please help?
Perhaps you could cover one child?

Any and all help is so important to us. Thank you for considering a gift to New Hope Children’s Village.

Three New NHCV Graduates

This year we are delighted to announce that three more NHCV graduates have completed their schooling and are now among the alumni of this ministry. We cannot help but reflect on the many years of loving these boys in our family and always knowing that this day would come.

Moses

Remembering Moses, who was a 6 year old boy, alone, hungry, and trying to find shelter. Watching him gratefully become a member of the NHCV family and begin to develop a love for God’s word. His nickname is the Preacher. What a joy to know that Moses will now set out with the benefit and advantage of all that he received at NHCV. Pray for him that he will be able to attend seminary training and follow his calling, passing along the lessons of love that he experienced at NHCV.

Shadrach

Shadrach, a quiet but accomplished young man, also watched as others like him would come to our family and be cared for in every way. Shadrach, God willing, would love to pursue his interests in medicine and be able to do for others what the Lord has done for him. The impact of love received will motivate love to give. Pray for Shadrach that he will persevere on this journey.

Ossiel

Ossiel watched the administrative side of how Marie orchestrated much from little. Organization, transportation, clothing, education, meals, worship, housing needs, all worked together like a well oiled machine under the leadership and watchful eye of Marie and her staff. Ossie would love to study the business of how things work together to create markets, ministries, and how numbers speak with predictive accuracy in business. We look forward to seeing Ossie take what was given and make a productive life in Liberia a reality for himself and others that are in need, as once he was as well.

Praise God for how such a variety of interests are born in the hearts of children! May the Lord add his favor and provision as they all pursue their dreams in Christ! This allows us to take on three more children and watch what the Lord will do in their lives and how they can give testimony to the amazing grace of the gospel.

These children depend on us. Can you help, please? We would be so grateful.

Always Thankful,

Myer and Marie Torbor
