Kaley’s Challenge — this appeal and challenge went out in the hope of raising 1,000 cans of food for this mission — a very, very impressive appeal for a 17 year old girl!
These beautiful faces belong to the children of New Hope Children’s Village in Liberia.
Over the past few years my church and our wonderful congregation has raised money, food, clothes, etc. to send to them though different ministries like VBS or missionary trips. However, having become incredibly attached to them myself I feel led to do something for them on my own. Having already written letters to all the kids and sent bracelets I still feel the need to do more!
So I am organizing a canned food drive to raise 1000 cans before the next shipment which will be in approximately one year from now. I’m asking everyone I know; family, friends, neighbors, teammates, church family, etc to help me meet this goal! If you know anyone else who would be interested in helping feel free to pass on this information! I would greatly appreciate it!
I have already started taking donations and I will be taking donations at any time throughout the course of the next year! You can bring the cans to me at any time you see me! You can also donate some now and some later in the year! Whatever you are able to give, no matter how big or small it will be amazing! Canned foods are the most needed at the moment due to expiration dates. Please give cans with an expiration date of close to two years or longer if possible! The shipping process for third world countries takes much longer so it’s important we make sure the food will last!
Also because the shipping is very expensive, it will take time to raise the money to cover that cost. Hence the year until we can ship! Please pray that we will be able to raise this food! These kids are very important to me and their situation weighs heavy on my heart! I am looking forward to being able to do something for these kids and I really pray that you will be a part of it!
Please let me know if you have any questions!
For those of you at church I will have a drop off bin in my dads classroom for you to leave the cans in! I will send out reminders and keep you updated on the progress of meeting this goal!
Thank you very much! God bless you!
We are overwhelmed by the great abundance that God has provided! Much more than we had anticipated (oh, we of little faith!). We had originally intended to send a 20’ container, but we are now requiring a 40’ container! Glory to God!
In addition to the already accumulated supplies, we recently were offered an entire curriculum of mathematics books and lesson plans. This is shown in the photograph. It is brand new, still in the boxes, and perfect for the needs in Liberia. All together it is about 125 boxes of blessings.

We were additionally excited by the challenge by Kaley Pitts from Providence Church to collect 1000 cans of food to ship to the children! At the time, we had no room left to ship the food, but now we have enough room to ship 5000 cans!! If you would like to help Kaley meet her challenge, let us know and we will have her contact you.
Please consider helping us with the additional cost of shipping.
We had enough to ship the small container, but this is more than we planned.
We have a matching grant offered for up to $1,000, so every dollar you give will be matched by a generous grantor!!!
This is only for the shipping, unless we exceed the amount needed, and then the overage will go to purchasing food and other supplies to ship.
The total shipment cost will be approximately $5,500 and we only have $4,200, so there it is, a shortage.
Remember, only a small portion of this shipment will actually go to the orphanage. Marie Torbor will distribute most of the shipment to other hurting members of the community, as well as to many of the schools in the area.
This goes a long way toward spreading the gospel by meeting the needs of a troubled nation.
Thank you.
Walking by faith,
